Kitty & Kalee

Little kitty has found his way to a home a few houses away. We don't know where he originated from but someone is now happy to call him "theirs". I wish he would be an indoor only cat, but it seems that he has been out too long and likes it, so he will be indoor/outdoor cat. It is a very loving home so that is all I can ask for.
Kalee comes today to celebrate New Years Eve with us. She is a 7 month old boxer and coming from the same shelter that Rex did, so I expect her to probably be just as scared and dirty. She has another foster home starting tomorrow, but needs to get out of the shelter today. Isn't this the sweetest face?

Stray Cats Welcome Here....

I don't know why every lost/stray cat finds its way to my door, but it just happens. My NH parents even bought me a sign that I hung in the garage that says " Stray Cats Welcome Here", and it seems to have worked.
After returning Friday night from dinner, I exit the car to hear a cat crying and crying and crying. I assume that the cat is hurt and sprint off to the neighbors yard to find it in the dark. I am searching through the neighbors bushes hoping that he doesn't come out and find me in his yard (he is the neighborhood crank). When I realize the meow is now coming from above my head. I look up and lo and behold the cat is on the roof! I think he jumped from a tree, but there is no way to jump back. I run home and beg my husband to go to the Crank's door and get the cat down. He does (he knows better :-), and the Crank actually helps by holding the ladder. We let the cat go and assume that is it safe and will go home.
Then, Sat. night I exit the car again and hear the same crying, this time he is sitting in another neighbors driveway just sounding so sad and alone. I make kissie noises and he runs right up to me for some loving. All the while my husband is saying "don't do it, don't, don't! Oh no, please don't feed it!!" Well of course I couldn't resist and the kittie gobbled it right up. I left the garage door open a few inches in case he needed to come in overnight (thunderstorms were approaching). This morning he is sitting in my yard looking for breakfast, and of course I feed his sweet face again.
I am in the process of hanging some found kitty signs, hoping that he was someone's Christmas Present that got a little lost on his first venture out at his new home.
Wish me luck, sweet as he is, I don't really need a 6th cat!

It's the day after Christmas....whew!

Christmas has come and gone already and I don't understand how I can be so beat from doing absoutely nothing. Being the first year we are home for Christmas, it didn't have much of a Christmasy feel. We had family come in and we gave it our best shot; lots of present opening early in the morning, a big Christmas breakfast, then Christmas dinner with all the fixin's on Christmas dishes, on a Christmas tablecloth on Christmas day. But, it is hard without all the family, snow or at least below freezing temperatures.
KK just left for 3 or 4 days in the Smokey Mountains with a friend. This is the longest that my 12 year old and I will have ever been apart and I am sad. Will she miss me like I miss her? and what will I do without her pre-teen temperment around the house? My 16 year old is not much into hanging out with me, so I guess that leaves me and the furbabies. Aww, sounds good and peaceful doesn't it?? I will let you know.

I Would like to thank the Academy......

No, really I can't believe it, but we have just been given our first award! I don't even write that well or often, but we'll take it with humble appreciation! And, with that we would like to thank A Dog and 2 Cats for our first award.
In keeping with tradition, we need to pass this on to 3 of our favorite blogs. Let us think about it and we will update this post.

This must be our lucky week. After Mona was adopted out on Sat. morning, we were called that afternoon to pick up a 6 month old border collie mix named Rex as our next foster. He was dirty, scared & very smelly! My first thought "hmmmm, this one is going to take some work." We rode home in the 30 degree weather with the windows slightly down and our noses sticking out just so we could breathe. We came home dropped him in a warm bath and let me tell you, what a difference! 10 minutes after being towel dried, he was a completely different dog, friendly, sweet and yummy smelling clean. We received a call for him on Sunday, and made a plan for his possible forever family to come to our house to meet him, so they could see how he is in his home environment. They fell in love and after reference checks took him home for Christmas.
I have had the luckiest week; 2 foster dogs adopted out in 4 days; that is unheard of. But, we are so happy as they are so deserving of a Christmas in a forever home. And to top that off, we won our first blog awards. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US!

My new favorite T-shirt!

I ordered this T-shirt the other day from Humane Association of the United States. "Rescue, Opt to Adopt".
And, let me just say that when it arrived today, I absolutely loved it. It is pink with brown lettering (my favorite fashion colors of the moment), and it is a womens cut which I also love. I usually wear a small, but I ordered a medium just in case it ran small and I am glad I did because it runs VERY small. If the medium shrinks much, I will be passing this on to my 80 lb. daughter and ordering a large for myself.
If you would also like to support HSUS and order yourself one of these "most fashionable shirts" to help spread the word, the link is: http://hsus.petfulfillment.com/productdetail.php?productid=1554

Ahh... Christmas Vacation

Yeah! We are officially on winter break. For the first time in 14 years we will not be heading up north to Massachusetts for Christmas. Our girls will actually have Christmas on Christmas for the first time ever. We will miss our family and friends a great deal over this holiday, but it was just too hard to do this year, financially & with all the other logistics that need to be planned. We will relax and enjoy the time off. Grammy & Papa are coming to visit from FLA for a couple of days and bringing sweet Marty with them. He is now a whopping 8 lbs and probably won't get much bigger, if any at all.

We have another foster that I picked up today. Her name is Mona and what a gentle soul she is! Personally, I would love to change her name, but she is going to meet prospective owners tomorrow so our relationship may be very short-lived. She was found stray about 8 weeks ago and has blossomed into a wonderful house dog due to some diligent work from her former foster mother.
